The current rash of right-wing ascendancy shows that greed is on the rise in our world. We in the United States and Canada have only had a diluted Democracy for decades upon decades. A more accurate description of what we practice has been called, by some insightful person, “Competitive materialism”. It is international hypocrisy that makes America urge “Democracy” on others. For one thing, America might hope to be able to control such a “Democracy” (as they have done in Central America, plundering resources). The other thing, that causes fat hands to rub with glee, is trade. “If you accept our democracy, you will be happy to buy our products”.
The international right-wing movement takes immigration as a main issue. Fighting immigration is grassroots stuff. Conservative voters feel threatened financially by waves of immigrants. This is proven in Italy, where right-wing Giorgia Meloni has won the presidency based on the immigration issue, and in France where opposition to immigration led the right-wing National Rally past the centrist party of Emmanuelle Macron. Similar pressures apply in America and Canada. It is a primary level fear of higher taxes and job loss to foreigners — a selfish, shortsighted, and racist viewpoint — one that favors racism over the financial good of the country.
Realistically speaking, population growth would enrich the economy by enlarging the market for all of the human necessities. This would…
