THIS BOAT IS LOST

Who’s boat it is I do not care

The owner will not find it here

Grounded by weeds in this little cove

Could be an expression of neighborly love

to move it to where it might be found

more easily when he comes round

with his angry outboard flogging the river

frightening ducks and swearing to never

ever, ever again share what he owns

with goddamn gifts or stupid loans

Jesus! I think. I invented this guy

Tomorrow my shrink will tell me why

I make blameful stories

While stealing lost dories

Abandon all doubt I say, now it’s decided

I push right off and hop right in

As the boat finds an eddy and starts to spin.

Horizon and sky. I’m loving it all this life of adventure

I am captain and crew and paying passenger

On a river cruise through lush nature

Exquisite nature bathed in sunlight forever

That is a long time forever remote
